🥘 Ingredients
- Rice krispies - I use a supermarket own brand equivalent.
- Orange food colouring
- Twiglets - this is the equivalent of about a third of a mini 24g (1 oz), packet.
- Marshmallows - mini white marshmallows and they melt in minutes.
- Butter - unsalted or salted is fine in this recipe.
The recipe card with ingredient quantities and detailed instructions can be found at the bottom of the post.
🍽 Equipment
- saucepan
- wooden spoon
- 5 centimetre or 2 inch scoop
- baking parchment
- large mixing bowl
🔪 Instructions
Put the butter and marshmallows in a saucepan.
Place over a low to medium heat and stir until melted.
This will only take a minute or two.
Add the food colouring, one drop at a time.
Stir and keep adding the colouring until you get a rich orange colour.
Add the rice krispies to the mixing bowl and pour over the orange mixture.
Stir to fully coat the krispies.
This might seem impossible at first, but gradually all the liquid will disappear.
Gather a heaped scoopful of the mixture.
Use your hands to compress the mixture into a ball.
Break each twiglet in half and push a piece into the middle for a stalk.
At this point, the mixture will start to break apart so compress again and slightly flatten into a pumpkin shape.
Place on a tray lined with baking parchment to prevent sticking.
Repeat the process to make 12 pumpkin rice krispie treats in total.
💭 Top Tip
- This mixture gets stickier as it cools. To avoid getting too sticky, and to help compact the pumpkins, lightly grease your hands with oil.
By the time you have finished all the rice krispie pumpkins the first ones will already be set and ready to eat.
They look so much fun piled onto a plate!

🤔 FAQS
This occurs when the marshmallows have been melted at too high a heat and the composition has been changed.
Always heat gently over a low heat and stir so that the marshmallows melt evenly.
